Sarah's Crockpot Applesauce 'Recipe'

A couple of days ago I posted that Fry's was having a special on apples and Sarah commented that she likes to buy cheap apples and make applesauce in the crock pot. She was kind enough to e-mail me her recipe (she used the term 'recipe' lightly). ;)

Here it is:

Core and peel apples (let's say 8 for recipe's sake)
then cut each apple into 5 or 6 hunks
place in crock pot
sprinkle with a Tbs of brown sugar and a tsp of pumpkin pie spice (could use apple pie spice or a smaller amt of cinnamon)
add some lemon juice- I put kind of a lot (maybe close to 1/4 cup), but you could even just use a squirt of that kind that comes in a bottle.
cook on low for 6 hours without lifting the lid
mash with a potato masher or blend with a hand blender
could be served warm or cold.
Enjoy!

Thanks Sarah!

I buy applesauce unsweetened...I wonder if omitting the brown sugar would be ok? Sarah?

Both the sugar and the lemon juice break the apples down- but I'm sure you don't really need the sugar esp. if you have the lemon juice. Try it and let us know.

After reading the amt of br. sugar again, I think a Tbsp. is such a small amount for all those apples, so it should be fine :).

On the sugar: I made a batch using honey instead of sugar to be a little more natural and it worked great!
